The setup I had wasn't good enough. So I bought some 12,000lbs ramps and some 3.5 ton locking axle stands. With this setup I got the car about 10" higher of the ground and and the car sits perfectly level. Now I can actually fit under the car and I feel much safer under there too. spent $100 bucks for the new stuff but my safety is priceless.
I was finally able to get the drum off. Still took quite a bit of effort. I'm gonna do a brake job while I'm at it because these have seen better days.
The Axles are 28 spline :-(. I was hoping they would be 31 spline but oh well what can you do. I'll use these and if the ever snap I'll replace them with Moser 31 splines.

Were you able to free your parking brake?

Yup I got it loose. The cable was jammed a little bit of forcing it in and out got it free.

Bet that made a huge difference! Pretty cool that you are documenting this process with us. Lincolns aren't my cup of tea/area of expertise. But I like this because I may pickup on things I didn't know, or even provide some bit of knowledge (of course you seem to know what you are doing just fine).

I'm documenting it primarily for myself sort of like an internet based journal if you will. But I love that people are showing interest in the project. You have already been of help I honestly did not know about the adjustment hole behind the drum.
Do you know if drum brakes are self adjusting? Like if I replace the shoes do I need to mess with the adjuster or will it adjust it self to where it needs to be?

no, and that's what it's for. When I did new drums I adjusted the shoes until they contacted the braking surface and then backed them off until the wheel spun without resistance.
And I'm glad that I've been of help.

dont want to make you doubt your existing set up, but whenever i have my 4000 lb car up in the air, and im crawling underneath, i slide a pair of wheels under there too.
i would prefer to not be squished like a bug, literally. and i mean literally in the true dictionary definition of the word there. hell, i cant even fit under my car at all with the wheels and tires on. my skull would be crushed like a grape.
anyway... think about it... some cinder blocks could also serve as the safety net. but make sure you position them in the correct orientation.

I still have two 2 ton axle stands(what I had before getting the 3.5 ton) that I will put under the axles. there's no way 4 axle stands will fail I don't think.

Disc brake swap?

Maybe one day but it's not in the budget for right now.
For now the rear end is the only thing getting a performance upgrade.
I have a fair bit of maintenance work to do before I can upgrade anything else. The primary stuff I'm gonna focus on next is replace all the shocks and springs as well as all the bushings. These 36 year old springs are unbelievably fucking tired the car sags about two inches because of the week springs. And most of the bushings are dry rotted.
Once I get this thing to be a good runner then I'll upgrade some more stuff.

What rear end is in these? 8.8 or 9 inch? What are you putting in?

This has the 9 inch. I'm going from 2.47:1 to 3.25:1 gears and putting in a full spool.

Seems kinda small for such a big car. Stick 4.11s or 4.56s in there.

Remember I have a C6 3spd with a 1:1 final drive. If I put in 4.56's I'd be revving like 3700rpm @ 70mph. With 3.25's I'll already be revving over 2600rpm @ 70mph

Those drums are indeed self-adjusting, assuming you put them back together properly. Use the adjuster to get them halfway close, then brake while reversing a few times to take up the slack. They work pretty well.
Those 3-inch shoes look like they'd stop an 18-wheeler.
Also, do yourself a favor and get new springs and hardware. It's cheap, makes reassembly easier, and it's safer than re-using 40 year old parts.

Are you sure about that? someone else told me they were not self adjusting. now I don't know who to believe.

Your pic clearly shows the self-adjusting mechanism, so yeah, I'm sure.
The cable wraps around the rear shoe and terminates in a plate that pivots on a star wheel. The star wheel is threaded to adjust the space between the shoes. When you back up, any slack will move the rear shoe, yank on the cable and turn the star wheel.
Check that the adjusters haven't frozen up. They like to do that.
